Students will experience a guided tour of the entire Boston University campus with a focus on the communications department. Boston University was founded in 1869 but traces its roots to 1839 in Vermont and has its main campus just northwest of the convention center, running along Commonwealth Avenue. The College of Communication is the oldest public relations school in the United States and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in three academic departments: Film and Television; Journalism; and Mass Communication (Advertising, Public Relations, Communication Studies, and Emerging Media Studies). The journalism and communication programs are highly ranked nationally with its public relations program on PR News’ 2023 Education A-List and its film program in The Hollywood Reporter’s top 25 American film schools list in 2022. The tour will last for approximately 1.5 hours.

WCVB Channel 5 Boston, one of the premier news stations in Boston and an ABC affiliate, will host a group of students during their noon broadcast. Students will be able to tour the studio and newsroom while also seeing a broadcast go live from behind the cameras. The experience will take place from approximately 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Attendees will ride a bus to this tour.

Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the Senate

On scenic Columbia Point right near the JFK Library, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate offers a variety of active and engaging programs to encourage people’s interest in the dynamics of how the Senate works as part of our government. Our specific program will focus on voting rights. The EMK Institute strives to inspire “the next generation of citizens and leaders to engage in the civic life of their communities” — that’s you!

Emerson College

Students will experience a guided tour of the entire Emerson College campus with a focus on the communications department. Located in Boston’s theater district just off Boston Common, the college offers more than three dozen degree and professional training programs specializing in the fields of arts and communication with a foundation in liberal arts studies. In August 2022, Emerson’s Visual and Media Arts program was rated No. 6 in the nation by The Hollywood Reporter. The tour will last for approximately 2 hours.

Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum

This is not your usual museum. To house her exploding collection, Isabella Stewart Gardner, a wealthy patron of the arts, built a Venetian-style palazzo along Boston’s Back Bay Fens at the turn of the 20th century. The place is jam-packed with world-class art, from the inviting courtyard to the rooftops. Intimate concerts fill the halls with music. And yes, this is the place where the infamous, still-unsolved robbery – Rembrandt, Vermeer, Degas – took place in 1990.

The Museum of Fine Arts is the 20th-largest art museum in the world, measured by public gallery area. It contains 8,161 paintings and more than 450,000 works of art, making it one of the most comprehensive collections in the Americas. Highlights include Ancient Egyptian artifacts; French impressionist and post-impressionist works by Gauguin, Manet, Renoir, Monet and Van Gogh; Tiny Treasures: The Magic of Miniatures; Stories Artists Tell: Art of the Americas, the 20th Century; and much, much more.

Museum of Science, Boston

One of the world’s largest science centers and Boston’s most attended cultural institution, the Museum of Science includes 700 interactive exhibits. Just a few of the highlights: the museum’s newest exhibit, Exploring AI: Making the Invisible Visible; Arctic Adventure, where you’re not simply told about the Arctic—you’ll feel it, including a touchable wall of real ice; and the Hall of Human Life, with more than 70 interactive components helping you engage with your biology and manage your health.

New England Aquarium

Located at the Boston Waterfront, the New England Aquarium’s main attraction is the four-story Giant Ocean Tank, which swirls with thousands of tropical creatures, including turtles, sharks and eels in its 200,000 gallons of water, simulating a Caribbean reef. The Aquarium also includes harbor seals, a marine mammal center, a penguin colony in a 150,000-gallon tank of saltwater, sea jellies, sea dragons, the science of sharks, a shark and ray touch tank, not to mention numerous smaller tanks featuring different aquatic habitats.

Statehouse

Our one-hour tour through the Massachusetts State House will include a bird’s eye view of the legislative process and a bit of architecture, along with some history of the building, the city and the state. If legislators are around, the accents alone should be worth it! The State House, easily recognized by its golden dome, occupies pride of place at the head of Boston Common – if we walk from the convention, it will be a nice mini-tour of that part of the city.

Fenway Park

Since 1912, fans have flocked to Fenway Park to watch the home team play in the heart of Boston. It is referred to as “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark” by Major League Baseball and sports enthusiasts, home to Red Sox legends Williams, Yaz, Fisk, Rice and Pedro, to name a few. Take in the magnificent view atop the fabled Green Monster, standing 37 feet 2 inches high, overlooking left field. Let the experienced tour guides lead you through the hallowed walls and legendary moments of historic Fenway Park. Each Fenway tour lasts for approximately one hour.

Boston Globe

The Boston Globe, which has served its readers for more than 150 years, moved its offices downtown to Exchange Place in 2017, steps away from the Freedom Trail, the Old State House, and Faneuil Hall. The tour will take visitors through the Globe’s editorial and business offices, and be led by a Globe staff member. Each tour will last approximately one hour.

TD Garden New England Sports Museum

The Sports Museum celebrates the history and character of Boston sports, including teams that play in TD Garden and others that make Boston the envy of the sports world. The Sports Museum consists of a half-mile of exhibits at TD Garden, the home of the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics. During the TD Garden Arena tour, museum assistants will guide you through Level 3 of TD Garden to give your group a behind-the-scenes look at the arena and also take you up to Level 9 to see the championship banners with a  birds-eye view of the arena. Each Sports Museum Tour lasts for approximately one hour.

Kennedy Library

The John F. Kennedy Museum portrays the life, leadership and legacy of President Kennedy, illustrating the office of the President and showcasing memorabilia from his family and administration. It’s located on a 10-acre park, overlooking the sea and the city where he grew up. This is a great opportunity for an up-close view of this still much-discussed man and his presidency. The tour will last about 1.5 hours.
